Stupid immoral assholes have rigged the game in favor of stupid immoral assholes at the intentional expense of everyone else because they are stupid immoral assholes who love to bully anyone who isn't just like them. They're enthusiastically worthless as human beings.

Faine Greenwood

Yes, stupid immoral assholes have done far too well for basically forever, but right now, it feels like being a stupid immoral asshole has become the ONLY way to do well. That is a problem.

One of the comments on this post had this video, worth watching. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9ue...

Good read: www.welcometohellworld.com/who-goes-tra...

Who goes transphobe?by Sandy Ernest Allen It is an interesting and somewhat macabre parlor game to play at a large gathering of one’s acquaintances: to speculate who in a showdown would go transphobe. By now, I think I ...www.welcometohellworld.com

Oof. I can smell the massive personal trauma from here. That's beyond insecurity, and more like living in perpetual fear. He needs so much therapy. He doesn't have to stop BJJ to start therapy, either. He has none of the peace he should feel from the strength he claims to control.

Dan of the Year

He will never understand that being "the fat guy from Superbad" is infinitely better than being "the martial arts chud nobody likes"

Half the reason I'm going more by the back routes lately is to avoid those fuckers. Between disability and location, I'm car-reliant, but I'm also in a 2-decade-old sedan with my phone either stowed in my purse or in the hands of my front-seat passenger (kid who knows my password for this reason).

Why does no one ever say, "I support adding a lane to this highway, but those drivers really need to do something about the excessive speeding, distracted driving, and red light running."

This is true. Think of how many airport novels exist, the print equivalent of a TV movie or a soap installment. For every work that actually does something interesting, there's so much formulaic dreck that isn't worth preserving (though they reinforce cultural value by contrast, I suppose).

My most unpopular opinion is that not every book has historical and cultural significance and it is not, in fact, morally wrong to shred books. There are a shit ton of books out there that are "old" and "rare" and it's fine to shred them. They're in the Library of Congress probably.

Consider the oeuvre of Rob Schneider, for example. Not sure how much of that is worth preserving. Maybe one film to verify such schlock existed?

Shepherd

No, not even every novel has historical and cultural significance. Not even every play, every screenplay, every movie script. It's fine for some of them to disappear forever and leave no record as hundreds if not thousands of written things already have.

Missed this earlier in the week. What a shitshow. I feel for Tracy Wolff.

Courtney Milan

You may recall the case where Lynne Freeman sued Tracy Wolff for writing a YA set in Alaska where the male lead was hot and broody, just like in Freeman's book. This litigation went on for three years before a judge finally read both books and said there was zero infringement.

They definitely opened in-person schools before there was a vaccine. There were modified schedules, but while my kids were in 100% remote ed, a lot of our district was on a hybrid schedule of staggered attendance w/masking. It may have been modified, but it was still in-person.

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"
