Even then, that period contains its own subgenres of Japanese horror like continuing splatter/guro films, etc. that blanketing it with J-Horror is incorrect! The point is be curious, look at what’s going on around these movies, and don’t be so quick to reduce so you can publish faster.

There's 2 incredible books I'd recommend for this, too– - Yurei - by @zackdavisson.com to fill in tons of historical and cultural context - Ghost in the Well by Michael Crandol, which offers a ton more recommendations of kaiki cinema, which is more often than not horror set during this period
