Minneapolis politics. Member @twincitiesdsa.org — Opinions my own

"The license plate network became a “backdoor for civil immigration enforcement that our community never consented to,” Fridley City Council candidate Abdilahi Jama said at a packed council meeting. “The public trust has been broken.” Lots of important suburban municipal elections on August 11!

From the Star Tribune Hotdish today: "Through July, Senate Democrats spent far more defending Latz in a safely Democratic district than in any November battleground." $40k could have gone a long way in a swing seat to hold the DFL Senate majority.

DFL Senate Caucus blew $41k on protecting Ron Latz in a safe DFL seat -- 32% of their total candidate spending so far this year -- more than triple what they spent in actual swing districts to protect candidates Grant Hauschild and Eric Putnam that we actually need to maintain a majority.

" @lynettedumalag.bsky.social says her own involvement during Operation Metro Surge—organizing neighborhood patrols, responding to reports of immigration enforcement activity and opposing a proposed detention center—has resonated with voters looking for leaders who were visible in the community."

Waymo is certainly not going to bring a CEO to the cops for doing insider trading inside the car. We all know who this type of tech is going to target.

Robin for Ward 2

"Robotaxis could be turning into robocops." Minneapolis does not need vigilante surveillance by big tech. If Waymo can do this to some teenagers, they can do this to you or any of your neighbors. A failure to regulate Waymo means no safeguards to ensure Waymo isn't handing people over to ICE.

Got a live phone poll today (crazy anyone has that much money to burn) that asked me if I found Jacob Frey's endorsement of Angie Craig more persuasive than Peggy Flanagan's support from Keith Ellison, Tina Smith and Ilhan Omar. Gotta tweak that targeting a bit I think.
