I have a horrible looking VHS of In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro, but there are some good killer baboon bits in there from what I recall. Wonder if it plays better (or worse) if the picture/sound is clearer.

There is so much horror and horror-adjacent TV these days it is kind of impossible to contextualize how special CRYPT was back then. I basically made friends with kids whose fam's had HBO so I could watch it.

Like many I succumbed to the zillion different special and anniversary editions of the various Evil Dead Trilogy films across several formats.

He would have slotted naturally into the superhero era too. Very easy to imagine him helming one of the early MCU movies or something.

I've always wondered why Russell's career fell off so hard after THE SCORPION KING. Whatever one thinks of that movie (I kinda like it), it was a financial success. Then he disappeared for 14 years and reemerged in what felt like director jail. Curious if anyone has some knowledge here?

PINOCCHIO UNSTRUNG. This was a lot of fun. Felt like a 90s straight to VHS movie. And I mean that at in a good way! Those were my jam.

THE BLOB is so good. A practical FX horror masterpiece.

RIP to director Chuck Russell, who you probably know most as the director of the Mask, but whose masterpiece film that you should absolutely go back and watch is his 1988 remake of The Blob. Seriously, it's a near perfect movie.

One of a handful of movies I loved as a kid that none of my friends particularly liked and I didn't get why.
