I do think that with Farage's problems, Starmer may have started to edge up too. But, Burnham is better with his messaging, based on the reaction. But once Parliament returns, things will get busier and the autumn session will show how capable he really is.

If the Government is sensible, they will ensure that the civil service provide opportunities for work experience. More will be needed. I used to arrange work experience in our area of HM Customs & Excise in the 90s. A lot of our work was quite interesting, which helped with quality placements.

Depends on how well he delivers. If his actions match his positive message, he will benefit. Otherwise, he's simply brought false hope. And he won't be forgiven if that's what we end up with.

I had a peripheral involvement with Civil Service Apprenticeship s (policy support) for a few years. If employers get behind them, they are really beneficial. Of course the apprentice gains the skills and experience. But if the employers then have permanent roles/career paths for them, they win too.

Nobody in politics at the moment has the guts to start the long journey to join the EU. I hope I have 20 years or so left on this rock, but I don't see us back before I snuff it. That said, I wonder if the EU will still exist as a decent, effective, democratic organisation in 20 years time.

There are variations of this approach across Europe. The headline is poor, to be honest. They take a similar approach in Hungary. Seems to be effective. Their problem though is losing skilled people to emigration.
