Seeing BRAND NEW DAY tomorrow, and I hope I like it more than the last one (I really couldn’t like it less), but re-upping my thread on why I’m skeptical because the “we’re back to street-level Spidey” hype still feels like bizarro gaslighting to me based on how we got here.

Thinking about SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY since we're probably getting a trailer soon, and can I just say the pitch that 'we're finally getting street-level Spidey in the MCU' is possibly the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard? Like genuinely breaks-my-brain levels of dumb?

*standing up on the plane* Wreck-It Ralph is a child-friendly remake of Taxi Driver, a story about a man alienated from his job and community finding new purpose in his quest to protect a young girl. King Candy is the pimp.

*standing up on the plane* No, getting together a TV couple with will-they/won't-they romantic chemistry is NOT a mistake. You may be listening to conventional wisdom about the TV show Moonlighting, but as has been comprehensively shown by an array of critics, that program's problems had nothing t-

Sure, Jared Leto is a creep with multiple allegations to his name over the course of two decades, but you have to understand that he's also a mediocre actor who's a nightmare to work with and whose movies are critical flops that don't make money.

You can say "oh, well, he did win an Oscar, I guess that's why Hollywood's always casting him." No. That was in *2014*. It explains Suicide Squad in 2016 (where his performance was widely panned). It does not explain his entire 2020s run, which is wholly inexplicable. Hollywood just loves abusers.

Seriously, has there ever been an actor who was simultaneously this problematic, this untalented, *and* this much of a box-office repellant, all while still somehow working? This fucking industry, man.

this sounds elitist but our recovery from the present moment will depend in part on being able to once again effectively malign, ostracize, and refuse a platform to cranks

I don't stan Fauci in any mawkish resistlib way but I do not blame him for not wanting to play along on television with a gaggle of conspiracy-addled degenerates who are objectively beneath him in terms of intellect, culture, and values

I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.

Turns out that food companies were only checking their food because the government told them to, which is exactly why we need government regulations.

Won a Street Fighter match earlier so desperately and by the seat of my pants that when I got the final KO I literally jumped out of my seat and yelled “LET’S FUCKING GO!!!” to nobody (only my dog was in the room, confused). What am I becoming? Who am I now?

I think if Microsoft were just fully doing the thing they should be doing and becoming the big 3rd party publisher, this would be like Sonic Adventure 2 on GameCube: jarring at the time, totally pedestrian within 5-10 years. It’s the uncertainty that makes it so weird.

To be fair they were plenty slippery in the original…just in a way I’d long since learned to master, so the fact it’s different slippery is very apparent.

Only sour spot so far is the Warthog feels wrong. The new default control scheme moves like a traditional video game car (R2 to accelerate) but you can swap to the old stick-based system. Neither feels quite right. My muscle memory was working against me when driving.
