It’s not just 60 Minutes that she’s destroying, and if you think “this was the plan all along” consider that in order for propaganda to be effective, people need to be watching it

NEW: Under Bari Weiss, CBS News has shifted to the right to try to grab some of Fox News' audience. Not only have they failed to do that, but they've driven off so much of their core audience that CBS Mornings is now perilously close to getting beaten by Fox & Friends. zeteo.com/p/mamdani-de...

This is my Take too. It is good to ensure people have access to necessities. It is extremely not obvious that loss leading state owned grocery stores are the best way to do that but not so entirely obviously a bad idea that it's not worth trying. Trying is what Mamdani is doing, so fair play to him.

post malone ergo propter malone

I am pretty skeptical that the city-run groceries are going to be a W but like, that’s the point of pilot programs, if they work well we figure out how to scale and if they don’t then oh well. pretending like they’re an *obvious* or common-sense W is just idiocy though

this is essentially correct w/r/t how reactionaries must be dealt with: "...we can’t welcome the people and groups who’ve made it their mission to set fire to our governments and institutions—whatever their inadequacies, these are the most consequential tools in trying to build just societies."

I wrote for @thenation.com about how Leo's surprise mass excommunications against the reactionary SSPX sect can teach political pro-democracy and pro-liberalism forces a thing or two

it's disgraceful for the entire country that we have these crooks and lunatics subpoeaning scientists and doctors and verbally abusing them on tv. It's a national embarassment, but every day living under the boot of these people is a national embarassment.

I don't stan Fauci in any mawkish resistlib way but I do not blame him for not wanting to play along on television with a gaggle of conspiracy-addled degenerates who are objectively beneath him in terms of intellect, culture, and values

Refusing to platform cranks is a core value that journalism must embrace. I've come across lots of, 'I'll just ask them tough questions folks in my career,' including a former boss. But by handing them your megaphone, you've already signaled that their's is a perspective worthy of consideration.

[Christopher M. Federico]

this sounds elitist but our recovery from the present moment will depend in part on being able to once again effectively malign, ostracize, and refuse a platform to cranks
