Sorry, I have made brownies but not a lot and do not have much expertise there. Maybe I should experiment with that.

Oh no! I think everything we have for those purposes is glass. Pyrex, Anchor Hocking. But I’m not really partial to anything. I like finding a good pan at a Goodwill. 🤷

I reread The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter 20 years later and loved it.

Teachers really do make all the difference. Well, that and encountering a work at the right time. I read The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter for summer reading before 9th grade and hated it, but my other summer reading book was And Then There Were None. Unfair to put those back to back.

I didn’t mind it in high school, but in college I had a prof who took a deconstructionist view of literature and we were literally breaking it down word for word and it was excruciating.

I’m still not sure if this is just a case of loving the strings I spent the most time with when I was learning, but I do still love me some EB slinkies.

Oh, this is a great point. If it’s not a new bass and they’re not new stock strings, then I’d just change them out.

Different string styles do make a bit of a difference—maybe more so in playability than sound—but in my experience the biggest difference is the age of the strings. So, beat up these strings and then put on new strings when you need them and want things to sound a little brighter.

If you’re ok with what you’ve got now and you aren’t recording or playing a show soon, I’d stick with the stock strings and focus on getting used to the bass. Then, when you switch strings, you’ll know what the new strings add to the sound and what was already there in the bass.
