For one of the very few times ever, the Brits I follow on social media are complaining about what I assume is sportsball, and I almost kinda know which one they're talking about.

Seeing the stinky, misty haze settling around my small Midwestern town due to the Canadian wildfires hundreds of miles away, I can't help but think how surreal it must have been for the rest of the world in the 1880s watching the weird sunsets after Krakatoa.

Whenever I see a call-to-arms to contact your Senators to vote a certain way on a piece of legislation or whether to approve a nomination, I'm always baffled by the idea that everyone lives in a state with leaders who would actually listen to their constituents.
