When I found out about midday today that it’s Thursday and not Friday:

Talking to @chrislhayes.bsky.social, @jamellebouie.net appropriately slams the political media for giving Elon Musk a pass for his horrifically racist tweets. Read his column: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/o...
Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.
Musk got away with his $1 million vote-buying scheme in 2024. Why wouldn't he try something similar this November?
The imminent flight that I mentioned at the end of this story has taken off. Sounds like it’s going to go Senegal - Ghana - Central African Republic, with the latter two being third-country removals. At least one of the immigrants being sent to CAR is from Nepal.
Gillian BrockellNEW FROM ME: A frenzy of cruel and unusual ICE flights over the last few days suggests the Trump admin is ratcheting up its ethnic cleansing campaign. And it may be increasingly desperate to find willing collaborators. My breakdown: gillianbrockell.com/frenzy-of-cr...
Organize for and contribute to Hinojosa and you’ll earn votes to take the Senate seat as well because that vote trickles up. It’s a two-fer!
Greg PakMaybe even bigger news, y'all -- @ginafortexas.bsky.social is just a point behind Abbott in the gubernatorial race in this same poll! That's HUGE! Abbott, while a repugnant fascist, isn't as nearly compromised as Paxton. Hinojosa CAN WIN THIS - consider throwing her a couple bucks! ginafortexas.com
It feels like we’ve reached that point where Schumer and Bernie kind of cancel each other out in terms of least helpful endorsement. Detente!
Eric BlairHaley Stevens is endorsed by Chuck Schumer. She’s not advocating to replace Dem leadership. I don’t really have a candidate in that race. But I do think that she’s taken both the centrist and “no fight” lane and it’s important to think about why those have—so far—been related in many races.
I was wondering if anyone was keeping a running total on Trump’s waste and abuse. You have to check out this video. And there’s so much, I bet you forgot about some of it: 💰Ballroom: $1 billion project, taxpayers already on the hook for $300 mill 💰 J6 Slush Fund: $1.776 billion for his rioters 🧵
The Trump administration has gone months without paying attorneys who represent unaccompanied immigrant children as part of a years-old, congressionally-funded effort. The latest in a series of temporary bridge contracts ends tomorrow, with no replacement in sight: www.huffpost.com/entry/unacco...
This is a good thread on rural communities. Having reported in rural places (in farmer meetings in fact) I thought this matched a lot of what I saw.
Sarah TaberA very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.
The streets are awash in fent because border security (and port security) are paid. Texas has been Republican controlled forever, so it's weird that all this shit keeps coming through. How are they winning on border security? They're in charge and have been in charge. No one mentions this?
The greatest asset Dems have right now should be our bench, but the party is almost as terrified to that as they are of the base. Our greatest asset is how mind-blowingly awful so many Republican candidates are. One or two keep getting through, but nominate someone normal and it’d be a problem.
FactPostVivek Ramaswamy is booed offstage after telling Ohio crowd, 'The truth of the matter is, people in my generation have already made it. We're gonna be fine.'
“… given the backlash that ICE agents have faced after large-scale enforcement operations in cities like Minnesota, making arrests at airports, behind the closed doors of security lines, provides ICE agents with relatively less public exposure and scrutiny,” according to one immigration attorney.
Gabe Ortíz“Ask any immigration attorney, whether they’ve been practicing for five years or 40 years, the types of actions that we’re seeing at airports across the countries is essentially unheard of.”
bought candy at the pool for a 13yo and she tried to give me cash. i was like nahh it's nbd, and she goes "girl i have seen your car." 13yo girls remain undefeated. you think you're talking to a child but you're actually talking to whatever gods used to send to punish mortals for their hubris
