Most people masked and practiced social distancing. Most people got the vaccine once it was available. Most companies switched to remote work. People *did* come together and make sacrifices for the public good. Do not let the complainers rewrite history.

I keep seeing people saying stuff like "The lesson of Covid is most people would rather die than help each other out" and that is completely wrong! Most people understood the severity of the situation and acted accordingly. Do not let the loud minority convince you that everyone else is selfish.

I probably ought to go back over my muted words and whatnot to limit my exposure to the stuff that neither brings me joy nor helps me understand the current moment

Bit of a chicken/egg issue because I'm not sure what other user has both the attention he has to get this pile-on and the willingness to say this. It's not a good faith question. I don't like the pile-on. I would prefer that had not happened. The substance of what Stancil said was not innocent

We've already litigated the political value of a government run entity that serves under-served people at prices below what the market elsewhere can dictate, and doesn't turn a profit It's called the USPS and we're developing an extremely clear picture of what will happen if it goes away

I think there's a deeply cynical thing about saying "politics aside" and then launching into an "explain to me like I'm five" question about a political policy. It's dripping in the muck of saying things to get elected versus doing what you said you'd do and I think the callout fit perfectly

I think letting guys like Will Stancil try to innocently pull discourse so it's weird to treat the idea of running government as something other than a business is a bad idea. Like "oh so you want to pay more in taxes, huh?" No you soggy biscuit, I want fair share to actually mean that!

"Politics aside," is the exact same rhetorical device as "I'm not racist, but..."

They are anti-science con-men looking to abuse the concept of good faith in order to directly or help in selling snake oil to rubes I appreciate the dedication to defending a man being demonized, but treating their arguments like good faith isn't worthwhile, even if they hold a seat in congress

At any rate, I understand the argument about "blaming the manufacturer when somebody uses a tool for crime is a bad idea" and I see it in many ways, but yeah, sometimes the manufacturer needs to answer for it. I wouldn't ban cars, but I would ban that tool that tricks your car's seatbelt sensor.
