Yeah, I grew up around a lot of guys like Platner despite being a "well educated liberal" and he's not some great mystery that only Real People get. He's not pure evil but he's also not someone who's proven he should be anywhere close to the Senate right now.

This is me as well, I just wish a bunch of people hadn't spent months saying it's unreasonable to be uninspired by what sure seems like an entitled edgelord with anger issues. I don't even necessarily buy he's an "adventurer" like Ganz says, but that's less important. He's a better evil IMO.

I also do think they looked at 2020, where a younger, progressive-ish candidate in Gideon led in all the polls and then there was a 15-point error and Collins won comfortably. Mills was an older, reasonably popular moderate governor. She was an archetype that made sense in the race.

It's been discussed for a while that there was a decent chunk of oppo research Mills didn't drop when she was in the race but it's clear now that Collins/GOP is deploying it now that Platner is the presumptive nominee.

Every day it feels like I learn about yet another group of idiots who somehow think the leopards won't eat their faces because they align on one niche idea, oftentimes for completely different rationalizations.

We'll see. Sara Gideon was a pretty progressive, younger politician and couldn't break thru, and she had a cleaner background that Platner appears to have. He's still better than Collins so you've gotta vote for him if you can but Collins just has this weird spell cast over Mainers every 6 years

Mills probably doesn't beat Collins in the Senate race (I'm not sold Platner does either) but Mills wasn't deeply unpopular or anything.

What's going to be extra annoying is that if he loses (which is a real possibility; Collins was looking worse vs. Gideon in 2020 and still won by 9 pts), they'll blame stuff like this instead of acknowledging he was a middling-to-bad candidate who should have been vetted better at the very least.

I agree about the "AI consultant" being a dubious source but I briefly worked at a big tech company and was told that unless you're a revenue or cost center above $8-10B they didn't care all that much about you. $500M feels like something that could happen once or twice before someone notices.

Hey, sometimes they find independents who have only voted for Republicans in national elections and were former chairs of the Young Republicans at their college but claim they don't like one or two Trump policies because it costs them money.

Based on the fact a majority of MAGA voters think Trump, a man who can't walk in a straight line, could beat them in a fight, I'm not sure how normal the average American really is. But yeah, it's long been shown that the more people learn about these chuds the less they like them.
