ALL Disabled kids deserve fair, equitable funding, and access to supports - and not based on a hierarchy of who is Disabled and/or privileged enough - and not only AFTER they are in crisis. Which will 100% be the case, if these changes are pushed through as they exist now.

As always, cutting supports to some Disabled kids, while using the poor policy that left other Disabled kids un(der)-supported all of these years as an excuse to do so, just doesn't cut it.

A final fun fact: By 2021 when I was being pretty horribly attacked on a daily basis for being a public epidemiologist, the truly nastiest ones ... were physicians. For real. They *aggressively* defend faulty foundational knowledge to protect their authority. Fixing this won't come easy. 10/10

We need to have more conversations about how to prevent physician expertise like this from causing mass harm. The most obvious move is to not let physicians be in charge. We need interdisciplinary leadership in public health. This requires calling out the harms of physician supremacy. 9/10

When physicians have faulty foundational beliefs (no symptoms = no disease being one of them), policy fails and people get sick. Because physicians protect each other, the status quo persists. That is what my Op-Ed was about (even if The Star watered it down against my objections). 8/10

Let that sink in. Shame on this doctor for his lethal ignorance. Shame on UBC for letting him anywhere near students. Shame on the Globe and Mail for platforming him. For the record, large crowds gathering from all over is called population mixing and it's damned dangerous, full stop. 7/10

Kids and those around them were brutally harmed by asymptomatic COVID cases while public health docs insisted that taking people's temperature at airports kept everyone safe. That's how unchecked community spread went on to kill millions. Murthy is a pediatrician who teaches med students. 6/10

At the time, COVID minimizers insisted schools be open because kids were clearly "immune". (That was debunked by April 2020.) Remember that disease symptoms are caused by the immune system's response, NOT the virus. Any virus that evades the immune system can do massive harm without symptoms. 3/10

If Medicine was truly evidence based, we would have public health officers requiring 95 masks for Covid and explaining why they’re better than leaky surgical masks or the inferior cloth masks that BC’s public health officer wore in public as an living example of how to increase your infection risk

Because: BC's physicians, public health & government reps, despite claiming to learn and adapt based on real-world data, evidence, experience, are showing that those claims are still empty. I'm so tired of the exceptionalism and 'eminence based medicine' that continues to do harm in #BCPoli.
