Carville’s thing was never that he was a one-in-a-billion insightful strategist who was indispensable to getting elected. His thing was that he’s a Dem consultant married to a Republican consultant.

One time my wife’s car was stolen from the driveway and the police came by two hours later and and scolded us: “You live in the hood.” A month later while we were both out of town the towing company called us and told us we owed them $2K because they found it totaled and hauled it to impound.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Hindsight may be 20/20, but I think we can reasonably say that any country that produced Crocs would inevitably produce multiple Trump presidencies.

At one of the GenCons in the 90s, when it was still in Milwaukee, there was a condemned building across from the convention center and I joined an “adventuring party” with Rich, Josh, and Bates and we “explored the dungeon” in the pitch dark and almost died by falling through the floor.

One time I was leaving Dark Horse Tavern in Atlanta and I was a little fumy and David Cross was walking in as I was walking out and I said to him, "Hey, you're that guy" and he said, "No, I'm not."

Criminy, what is the problem this tool addresses?

New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...

Seconding this. Anecdotally, I have found that the people who use the slurm word-faucet -do not know the substance of what is on the page- and indeed cannot discuss it, let alone justify it. The equivalent of packing a box with styrofoam peanuts, with the exception that the peanuts serve a purpose.

For writers worried that they won't be able to "prove" their work isn't Spicy Autocomplete--worry not. You thought about every choice and will be able to talk about those choices easily and clearly. Folks who used the slop machine didn't make choices and won't have anything to say about why

I... I like this idea. Given player density and an absurd production budget, this would be a fantastic counterpart to foam-swords-weekend-at-a-campsite LARP. Like a nightclub, you couldn't have a peak night every night, but, man, if you could promote once a month or once a quarter, this would rule.

Social media features a daily crisis-posting of individual events as if they were one-off failures of policy instead of just yet more symptoms of siphon-up economics. "Here's a bad thing!" Yes, that is how it's designed to work; we need to change how the system allocates its outputs.

People are seeing this youthful, vigorous socialism in contrast with "billionaires take the value of the work you do in exchange for literally nothing and everything gets more expensive and also the public services atrophy even more" modern American capitalism and the comparison is easy.

"Helping working people to afford lives of joy” This is absolutely why Mamdani is succeeding in New York and is so beloved.

Kid headed off to college and moving into the dorm this weekend. Younger one moving into the now-vacant room and I don't have an empty-nest sense, there's a kind of melancholy to it. Younger kid is a tween and cleaning out that room turned up a lot of "kid stuff" that has memories or is sentimental.
