Film journalist, author, podcaster, broadcaster, etc. Empire's Editor-at-Large. If you would like to give me work, have a look at helenohara.com

Six year old niece told her mum this morning that she was practicing her writing. "Oh, just in case my other plans in life fail, I thought I can be a writer." So if anyone needs me I'll be over here staring into the darkness.

It's been 24 years, and I'm still just over here waiting for a film that delivers on the Reign Of Fire poster.

A fascinating read even if - like me - you liked the film quite a bit more than this.

I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Like most days, today is a good day to watch Rye Lane and get on the hype train. The Long Walk and Alien Romulus can be your chasers.

Empire Magazine

Random thought I just had: Chris Pine is really more of a Ryan Gosling than a Chris. I cannot justify or explain this thought, but it feels right.

Ryan Gosling Having Fun Just Messin' About is one of my favourite genres, so, eh, hope this is good.

I don't mean to be negative but I don't think they can deliver on this poster.

The new #EmpirePodcast is up, wherein we coin a portmanteau for the clash of The Bluey Movie and the Snoop Dogg biopic, and try to maintain our faith in cinema given the week's new streaming films. open.spotify.com/episode/5gQq...

A problem with the tagline "Before he was Scrooge, he was Ebeneezer," is that in the usual run of it, assuming married parents, it's not true. He'd be born a Scrooge and then they'd choose a first name. *A* problem. There are others.

I went to see The Oresteia at the Bridge Theatre last night and thought it was pretty sensational. *Not* one for those after a purist approach, certainly, but highly engaging and seriously well-paced. I think the so-so reviews are extremely harsh.

I turned this in and all.

Today I write the last entry for my next book, A CHRISTOPHER NOLAN DICTIONARY, which is out next year. But you can enormously help it by pre-ordering now. Waterstones: share.google/p7KxGpuP7IlB... Bookshop UK (ebook only right now): uk.bookshop.org/p/books/a-ch... Amazon: amzn.eu/d/0h3cG9wB

This is the shit that female directors have to deal with. They don't get credit for (miraculous!) successes but they do get blame for any hint of failure. Gerwig has directed three absolutely classic films and not one of them were gimmes.

Sam Adams

"No other ranking got as much pushback from Hollywood insiders as putting Gerwig in the top five," hmm, I wonder why

An alternative to all this AI shit would be for them to just get a life, just try it, just interact with human beings AS a human being. Just smile and be curious and pay as much attention as you can, it's not hard.

Dan Manchester

I worry sometimes that my response to AI might merely be regressive or reactionary and then every day I read shit like this and I think, no, I’m correct, these people have become completely untethered from the reality the rest of us share.
