Siward, earl of Northumbria’s invasion of Alba climaxed with the defeat of King Macbethad mac Findlaích (Macbeth) in battle #OTD in 1054. Macbethad survived the clash, in which the Annals of Ulster says 3,000 Scots and 1,500 English died. Siward lost his son Ásbjǫrn and nephew.
Ann Droid is one of those sitcoms where the premise and marketing material make it look pretty dire, one-joke trash, but it is in fact, a very gentle and humane comedy that is worth watching. If you were turned off as i was give it a try anyway! You may be pleasantly surprised!
Alan Reynolds's romantic landscapes of the 1950s perhaps owe more to Samuel Palmer's Kent than to the flat Constable country of his native Suffolk. The thorns, thistles and spiky botany of the foregrounds carry a faintly menacing air generic to 1950s art.
