While electability is a real thing to consider, it's always a little surprising to me to be reminded how many progressives think "this election is too important to nominate a woman" is a reasonable position.

The left needs a candidate it can unite around in the 2028 primaries and AOC is the only real choice. Nobody else checks all of the boxes. Every other option is worse. If she doesn't run, it's a missed opportunity of historic proportions. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/aoc-must-r...

This. Great piece arguing that our failure, not just to price in societal costs that businesses generate, but to not even try, is unacceptable. Product impact on health is a classic example.
Hamilton NolanIt is kind of amazing that we have settled on a version of capitalism that leads us into a trash can due to a decision not to price in the public costs of private profits. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/enshittifi...

“The failure to realize that ignoring these costs to public welfare does not make them disappear accounts for the nagging disquietude that enshittification creates in the public mind…They are not just feelings! They are economically real! We ignore them at our peril!” THE VIBES ARE OFF

"America’s capitalism adds up the profits created by privatizing public goods without subtracting the value destroyed. We've created the largest enshittifying machine in history with financial logic that leaves out half the equation." - @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/howthing...

"I Don’t Know How You Can Look at Minneapolis and Say They Are Better for Choosing Reform Over Revolution" • A conversation with Justin Ellis about "The Cruelty of Nice Folks"
Though we have failed to rectify the material consequences of bigotry, the campaign to demonize bigotry itself has been a cultural success. It is the one charge so powerful that racists cry about reverse racism, and war criminals claim to be victims of hate speech for being called war criminals.
“Incrementalism is ultimately bullshit.” Spoke to @justinellis.bsky.social about Minneapolis, defunding the police, and his new book. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/i-dont-kno...

A banger of a column. My favorite line in the description of the Searchlight Institute: "At least they are fighting the good fight against their own unemployment."
Hamilton NolanMost people are not policy experts. Therefore it's easy to produce a poll that finds that most people do not advocate for any particular sophisticated policy position. Centrists use this as a weapon against progress, which is bad. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/what-polls...
"People who have never experienced public health care and who must by necessity cling tightly to their own health insurance plans lest they be cast out to die do not tell a pollster that they want the government to create Medicare for All." This means nothing! www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/what-polls...

Nate is a true union activist from South Dakota that I met at Labor Notes. He’s fighting cancer right now and anyone who can donate to help him get by would be greatly appreciated. www.gofundme.com/f/help-nate-...
