Out now on Overinvested: Our review of BACKROOMS, a film whose success has kickstarted an entirely predictable trend of Hollywood studios greenlighting creepypasta/YouTube horror adaptations.

I'm very impressed by Kane Parsons as a debut director. A24 paired him with an conventional kind of screenwriter to balance out his lack of industry experience, and the end result is a film where the direction is actually way more compelling than the writing.

The framing of this as "crashing" frustrates me, because this was absolutely a stunt arranged through & with the support of Comic Con, probably to avoid the protests & pushback if people had known about it in advance. It's not a fun perk for fans, it's stealth marketing of a domestic abuser.

Here's my recap for episode 7 of The Vampire Lestat! A fascinating, complicated conclusion to the season, featuring the most disturbing horror sequence in the show's entire run.

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.

i must break my silence as a celebrity heights aficionado. it's v funny in The Odyssey when they make matt damon stand on a box at the end of the movie so he suddenly becomes 8 inches taller than anne hathaway.

I was lucky to interview TWO of The Vampire Lestat's vampires last week, discussing the season finale. First up, Sam Reid had a lot of thoughts to share on regarding Lestat's narration in The Failures -- and regarding the ambiguity of whether Lestat ever performs that final concert.

... a week or so on from watching the ep, I'm now very amused by the scene where Daniel frames Armand as his nagging wife and calls him "the boss" while talking to that bowling alley attendant. Like honestly that could mean anything, but IMO he's in his literal minion era rn.

I'm a big Daniel/Armand person and this pretty much aligned with my interpretation of the last few eps, which is that despite Armand's love confession and literally calling Daniel his "companion," whatever's happening offscreen is probably not a very functional romantic relationship lol. HOWEVER...
