What the fuck is "Tool: Omnibox" and why is it eating up 670 MB of RAM in Chrome? I turned all that AI shit off!

Currently there is a case in federal court against Patel and the US govt brought by a cisgender gay man who was fired for having a pride flag on his desk at the FBI in Los Angeles after being in the agency for 16 years. One of the riders is clearly retaliatory. www.courtlistener.com/docket/71932...

The range of the anodyne to what used to be considered extreme is so much more striking when considered as a whole. This is speed-running the overthrow of gay rights as a whole, and there will still be people swearing up and down that sacrificing us is necessary. www.metroweekly.com/2026/07/hous...
How would "AI" help me to find a photograph of John F Kennedy playing football? Search engines no longer work, and "AI" does not store any specific data in particular, only general statistics. It's worthless for finding anything that's not within two sigma from average, or that only appears once.
JuliaAs a visual (vs. English text) example, imagine if I was searching for a color photo of John F. Kennedy speaking at Rice University on Sept. 12, 1962. That is a single specific photo that exists. If you ask an image generator for this, it will give you a statistically average image of J. F. Kennedy

Apt that Vernor Vinge, populariser of the "Singularity" aka rapture-for-nerds in early 1990s, wrote a fiction in 2006 w/ a throwaway scene where giant AIs are systematically shredding the world's university's physical libraries to "scan" them using DNA sequencing methods. bsky.app/profile/meeh...
