There was a time when Final Fantasy games were 1 game. And then were split up between discs. Then, eventually, we got back to the 1 game era...but then VII remake came, and the wheels in their heads started spinning, and they realized people will literally wait years for a game to fully conclude.

This! Mind you, Lightning is probably one of the most popular Final Fantasy protagonist of ALL-TIME. And canonically? Strongest character of ALL-TIME in the entire series as a whole. Lightning is great.
