but I think a similar piece of advice applies to the choice to talk about talent or skill. aside from the fact that you don't know if something comes easy or not, skill recognizes the effort required/expended in a way that talent doesn't.

fwiw I use that tag (for my own writing) for the specific feeling of what is real and what isn't shifting under the narrative's feet, in a way that hits on my fears about hallucinations and losing touch with reality. seems a shame to use it for fiction more broadly, though

it's an effect that vaprgram calls rgbwave; basically just shifts each color channel a slightly different amount. it's the best ^-^

I always hesitate to recommend it to people, because, y'know. But it is deeply interesting as an attempt to plot a plausible pathway forward, and to show how a vast diversity of tactics & approaches are necessary to mitigate the worst of what the next century will bring. So, y'know. Good book.

But: you've got a book that presents itself as extremely liberal that also says, well, okay. Maybe we need an extrajudicial death squad going after oil executives so that they'll stop standing in the way of everything. Maybe it's okay if violence is the last resort of the dispossessed.

The thing that really interests me, though, is the fact that it tacitly argues that the only way to force systemic change is to make those who have power in the existing system more afraid of trying to maintain the status quo than they are of permitting change. It's mostly kept to the background.
