It was beautiful; early sunrise above the cypress across the way. And I won't say all these things had to go wrong for me to catch it: Maybe with many things right, I'd see gentle, lovely dawns more often. But it was there, and for a minute, I got to just...be the person witnessing it. 4/5

My wall, which the landlord won't let me paint, where perfect fragments of peach-rose dawnlight were glowing against the dimmed white. All b/c my cheap curtains aren't right for the windows, and they and the blinds have gaps. So I pulled the curtains and took in an absolutely Homeric sunrise. 3/5

Less than two hours later, I was awake again, after shallow sleep: hurting too much to stay unconscious. I got up, tried stretches to work through the pain, drank a big cup of water, etc. Stretching didn't help. I headed back to bed, out of ideas. Which meant I was staring at my wall. 2/5

This might sound like a complaint, but it is not: Last night, I was having a pain flare that made it really hard to sleep. A large group of muscles had clenched up, were inflamed, and hurt in a way that no lying-down position helped. I think I finally fell asleep around 5 a.m. 1/5

FYI there is no "real" reason why Rome "fell." Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.

I know the whole world is warmer, and this was decades ago, but I remember going to Minnesota in summer as a little kid and there being nights I needed a cardigan by dusk. That’s my kind of climate.

Extreme heat warning tomorrow lasting until 8 p.m., so that’s goodbye to me getting an outdoor walk. I find it very silly (i.e., offensive) that I have both health problems *and* necessary medications that reduce my heat tolerance.

I felt bad about it, and it gave me front-row seats to how easily a person can accidentally be excluded b/c of the lists someone uses. I don’t know if there’s a solution to prevent that, given the limited moderation tools we have.

Ah, gotcha. Blocklists are tricky. I spent weeks thinking a mutual since Twitter days had blocked me, and had no idea why, then checked the (few, usually reliable) lists I subscribed to…and my mutual had been caught up in one I kept muted, so it was my fault I kept missing his posts.

Do I think being stalked is equivalent to Stancil’s desire to plead his case about a block or three? No, but he’s worn out a lot of good-faith reads on here, and a lot of folks are familiar w/ needing blocks to keep them safe from genuinely threatening behavior. So it’s a bad look, minimum.

I think “rapist mentality” is a leap, but…I’ve also been stalked by someone who felt that me breaking things off wasn’t a decision I should be allowed to make alone. So I can see why the attitude behind that post (“your boundary doesn’t matter as much as my need for contact/closure”) is triggering.
