I was so happy to see that the Society for Disability Studies conference is fully online, so I could easily add it to my schedule without worrying about budget. I'm working on submitting a panel proposal for it. Unfortunately, others require expensive airfare and hotels. 😓

Im so tired of watching orgs frame accessibility as a hardship we cant afford. If we believe in #VastEarlyAmerica then we should also believe in supporting vast scholars. Every time I think people are listening to disabled scholars like myself I find myself let down. 2/6

I am paying out of pocket to attend a conference this year because I'm on the job market and it's a good networking and CV opportunity, but yikes the postdoc salary is not enough to be going to conferences on my own dime. 😓 I'm lucky that i have a non-academic spouse who can help w/ home finances.

Here at the end of Disability Pride Month, I say: not just disability pride. Also disability wrath, disability grief, disability defiance. And moreover: disability ease, disability safety, disability leadership, disability joy, disability creativity, disability liberation, and disability justice.

I felt this in my soul. Not only is Grant right in that reporting on accessibility in the gaming industry is vanishing, even disabled voices like myself are as well. A quick search tells me that yak horns are, indeed, made of keratin. I'm not sure if the process would be different for horns versus antlers, but it would probably work. I'd be happy to inquire if I could acquire some. Cross-border shipping on these may be a challenge though.

Give your pets extra snuggles and kisses today. Moscato was a big snuggler & he loved kisses. Always trust your gut if you think something is wrong. People thought I was overreacting bringing him to emergency that day, but it did save his life. Temporarily, but it was enough to say goodbye properly.

A couple weeks before his surgery—before we knew he was sick—we took flyball classes. He was the oldest dog there, but I wanted to give him fun, exercise, and excitement as he grew older. I'm so grateful to have these memories with him. We never got to do scent detection. bsky.app/profile/elle...

I'm not sure if I shared this at the time, but I believe that Moscato was sent to me with a job. I adopted him at 4 years old from a friend who needed to rehome him in the second semester of my PhD program. His surgery was a month before my defense, and he died a month after. He got me through. ❤️
