I am paying out of pocket to attend a conference this year because I'm on the job market and it's a good networking and CV opportunity, but yikes the postdoc salary is not enough to be going to conferences on my own dime. 😓 I'm lucky that i have a non-academic spouse who can help w/ home finances.
