That sounds about right. Rise would be unwatchable without charismatic actors. Bale is really good as Wayne and Hathaway is really good as Selina. But as soon as they get into costume they become much less interesting.

Rewatching Nolan's Batman movies and I'm starting to come around to the opinion of a certain New Zealander I knew. That is, they are not objectively good. Overstuffed with characters and nonessential subplots. Choppy editing and ADR dialogue making them feel like 2+ hour movie trailers.

There was always a steady trickle of stuff for the fans/nerds from 1985-1997. After that we were increasingly surrounded by "normal" adults being all loud and proud about loving Star Wars.

Oh it definitely was. But Young Frankenstein had the added advantage of being one of the funniest movies ever made.

Gosling makes sense as Bronze Age Johnny Blaze. Just so long as they don't try to make him 90's era tough-guy with a trenchcoat and a shotgun that shoots HELLFIRE.

That's the thing of it. You can look back now and see two Endor movies, a Droids cartoon, the novels and reasonably assume SW was as popular as it ever was. But you really had to be there to understand that it was already a thing of the past.
