This kind of thing isn’t necessarily bad faith or corruption, but it absolutely should have been disclosed and it’s a bad look for a major candidate for public office to have acted in a way that leaves them open to the charge that they are dishonest.

Exploiting a loophole in the ethics ordinance by resigning as health director & then becoming a contracted consultant. Quelle surprise. waynecountywatch.substack.com/p/el-sayeds-...

Why is the WPBL playing ALL its games in Springfield, Illinois? Even if we accept the historical connection for holding the first game there, why all of them? I’m betting MLB barred access to minor league parks, but even so you’ve got college ball fields all over the place.

I worked at an amusement park. In the evenings we picked up litter in the parking lot. One night I found a lock mechanism that had been pried out of a stolen car. I gave it to the cops. Two weeks later they called with an update on MY stolen car. They’d transposed my name and the victim’s.

Em, midly

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

So our take is that all the supernatural stuff is PTSD-induced delusion, and that in the big final conversation between Penelope and Odysseus the reference to the Sea Peoples is his way of admitting he and his men have just been marauding for ten years. Thoughts?

This guy lured investors with a 165-page "essay" linked in the piece. It's absolute balderdash. Unverifiable claims, flawed historical analogies, purple prose. Honestly, getting a humanities education from a liberal arts college was the best decision I ever made. We should make college free.

For years, Situational Awareness was tracked by Wall Street, members of the AI community and its founder’s fiercest followers. Outside those circles, however, the multibillion-dollar hedge fund remained largely unknown. But that was before it began unraveling this week. https://cnn.it/4w5VUZk

I gotta say, though, as an historian, the past six years have REALLY helped me better understand many moments in the past that once were confusing to me.

man I will just never get over the fact that the collective response to the pandemic, and an absolutely miraculous vaccine development, was to destroy public health in this country and smear everyone involved I generally take a positive view of humanity overall but it's so depressing

We don’t talk enough about how actor Andreas Katsulas, The One-Armed Man in the film version of The Fugitive in 1994, also played a casino manager in a 1991 episode of Murder, She Wrote in which another character refers to him as the “King of the One-Armed Bandits”. I mean, come on.

Some nattering nabobs of negativism will say, "You fool! Don't wait until the last week of July to do all your expense reports for this year!" Those nabobs are correct.

After the Civil War, the Republicans' main national campaign message was, "the Democrats are the party of secessionist traitors" for THIRTY YEARS, and those thirty years saw Republican dominance of national government. Dems today rarely repeat something past a single news cycle.

David Corn

This shows the gap between GOP & Dem. messaging. The Republicans NEVER stop pressing their false narratives. They bang the drums over & over. The Dems make their case & move on. They should have been non-stop pummeling Trump for Covid (and 1/6) for years, never letting anyone forget these sins.

Never in my life have I seen a journalist ask a business owner to shown them their books when the business claims that Policy X will force them to close or whatever.

Steve Randy Waldman

but accounting information that policy knowers think they know often has a tenuous connection to actual realities. 3/
