It sounds like the good law project is relying on internal investigation findings for their position. I applaud their solidarity but am not convinced that's the best position to take. Not just since I don't trust uni investigations as such but also because as i've said i don't think solidarity 1/2

Thats a good point although I was primarily referring to the part about them being supported by many local businesses, not any individual's actions.

Tbh I'm not sure why youre saying this as 1) we don't know for sure if there have been academic offences, 2) literally nobody is saying solidarity equals avoiding accountability and 3) literally nobody is saying all academics make these kinds of mistakes.

Anyone who actually cares about fair accountability and academic standards should be fighting for those preconditions to be met by refusing to normalise the acceptability of this kind of campaign or by letting it succeed.

Here i mean those saying "sure the campaign is racist but looks like he did actually mess up sadly" and then leaving it at that. But people deserve full solidarity in the face of racist campaigns regardless of what they've done. That is a *precondition* of fair accountability for their actions.

I think this strategy is effective because liberals are 1) always looking for excuses to avoid solidarity and 2) think that it should only extend to morally perfect people. But the implication of this is that there just won't be solidarity for anyone, as nobody is perfect.

I think for me the issue is other people getting caught doing similar stuff (assuming for a moment its true, which is might not be) and get told off, correct, and move on without having a national, very nasty, campaign against them. See e.g. the similar case of Julian young's nietzsche biography.

By influencers here i mean contemporary social media infleuncers - am aware of things like the earlier back to the land movement that was promoted more through books and pamphlets etc.

Its worth noting that there are many more examples of verbatim copying of passages in the original blog, of that kind that should be corrected imo. But the blog was written by Nathan coffnass who has a well known ideological agenda, which has nothing to do with academic standards.

Are you counting LD as left block? I feel they get lumped in that side a lot but i'm not sure their record justifies it, when they had a choice to enter coalition with labour or the tories they chose the tories. Even just a few days ago two LD councillor candidates in Gateshead defected to Reform.
