Saw a telegraph article earlier arguing the greens should no longer let polanski run his own social media and I suspect they just don't want people hearing important truths like this from a politican (and would rather we are fed generic PR slop instead)

The way AI is spoken about as having "disobeyed" (or "cheated", "lied", etc.) already seems to assume that is has agency (and maybe consciousness). Perhaps its my ignorance but i don't see why any of this behaviour is fundamentally different from, say, a glitch in a programme.

The whole strategy against Arday is about finding a few times where he may have been morally imperfect (e.g. exaggerating his proficiency at football as a child) and then using this to make it seem like he is a bad person who doesn't deserve solidarity in the face of an obviously racist campaign.

What's a good text to speech app specifically for people who can't speak but can type and want to use it for communicating with people? I know the various text to speech apps for reading text like speechify but they don't work so well for quick conversation.

I do think LLMs under capitalism are basically the privatisation of what Marx called the general intellect, a particualrly horrific form of intellectual and epistemic commons enclosure. All the headlines about AI becoming conscious and wiping us out is just a distraction from that.

The right wing press is attacking Jason Arday, afaik britain's only Black autistic professor, for plagiarism in his PhD. There is evidence of copying passages which should be corrected; but I think this is very common, its just that nobody notices or complains if you're white. Solidarity with Jason.

Wondering, ethically, how a postdoc should acknowledge funding if the principle grantholders were bad enough to make the postdoc too ill to work, and they therefore were able to publish despite rather than due to working on the grant. I do think this kind of thing happens a lot in academic fifedoms.

One of Rupert Lowe's most used slogans "I don't care" was actually a slogan of Mussolini's Brownshirts ("me ne frego"). I think any org or charity that doesn't want to be known as "anti-rights" should probably just not accept funding from a very clearly anti-rights billionaire.
