$12 USD, in the Strand Bookstore in NYC sometime in the 2000s. I would like to pretend I've been lugging this around unread longer than any book. This would be a lie, though.

Also, it occurs to me that this has a lot of affinities with Julian Castronovo's DEBUT (and the accompanying POSTSCRIPT ON DEBUT PDF, which functions similarly but distinctly to the footnotes and appendices in HOUSE OF LEAVES)

Just discovered it last week! The guy releasing it is a legend in boutique Blu-ray circles and this is his new label's maiden release, but there doesn't seem to be much crossover in the news to music circles yet.

All Piavoli's films are meditative and experiential and put story in deep background, so adjust your expectations appropriately. But I'm a big fan. (Impossible to compare with the Nolan, IMO. Same texts, different projects.)

If I read this when I bought it, I would have wished I had written it. I don't feel that way now, for many reasons, but it's provoking a lot of recollections of my mid-twenties, when I inhaled these kind of books and it still seemed more probable I'd publish a novel than direct a film.

Catching up with HOUSE OF LEAVES 25 years late is a hell of a thing, simultaneously (to my knowledge) way out of fashion (post-DFW ostentatiously clever, high page count, footnote-laden metafiction) and yet based on a central conceit that could have inspired BACKROOMS.

Honestly? Jonathan Glazer's FOUR QUARTETS would be monumental
