Not that this excuses the anti-nuke crowd, but it's underdiscussed how, for much of the 20th century, there was debate as to whether cooling from pollution would offset the greenhouse effect, something which doesn't seem so ridiculous in light of that boat-fuel-rule causing perceptible warming
