Spaceflight Photographer Fighting to keep the dream alive. derek.space derekspace.com He/Him

I’ve always been a bit unlucky when flying out if Florida to never get a good view of Kennedy Space Center… until today that is

The difference in how cheating is viewed in motorsports vs other sports is hilarious. Steal signs in Baseball? You’re an absolute heathen. Find a way to sneak more fuel into your engine between measurement cycles? Absolutely legendary.

I’ve worked with commercial spaceflight companies a few times now. This an insanely bad idea. Launch on a fundamental level is an incredibly violent affair, and a LOT of work has gone into making it coexist well with nature at Cape Canaveral.

Proposed rule would exempt commercial launch licensing from environmental regulations The Department of Transportation is proposing to exempt commercial space launch licensing from many environmental regulations, a move praised by industry but criticized by environmental groups....

Should I be insane and go to the Dutch Grand Prix...

You know when sometimes a friend makes a suggestion for something that is just so damn good that you cant believe you missed it? Yeah thats going on right now and its gonna be awesome

Genuinely it is such a shame that this hasnt been green lit. This was such a fun movie and the post theatrical popularity of it would make a sequel a slam dunk IMO

There's another insane shot in this thread of this incident, but this one might be my favorite because you can actually see the lightning starting to form around the rocket. It's straight out of a movie. That's insane

Random question but I feel like someone here is going to be able to help with this. Im currently working on the early planning for another documentary similar to Artemis : The First Flight, this time following JWST. I'd love to get some early input from anyone who's worked on/with that program!

I'd just like to say that by the day Robert Irwin *somehow* continually improve my opinion of him as a person? This guy rocks. Just across the board. petapixel.com/2026/07/21/a...

57 years ago a Saturn V rocket lifted off into the history books, as the Apollo 11 mission got underway. This is the first anniversary of this event where I can say I have seen humans go to the Moon with my own eyes.

I’m taking a small step back from talking about space so much right now, just in general can feel burnout trying to seep in again and want to try and keep it at bay. However I have been finding myself back in the interest hole of motorsports so I hope you’re all ready for that

I remember when Formula E was first starting out and it was laughed at quite a lot. But bit by bit they’ve gone from an underpowered racecar that couldn’t even finish an entire race, to the absolute beast that is the Gen 4. Next season is going to absolutely rock. youtu.be/DQQPuu3yxEQ?...

I have always had a healthy respect for people that work in construction, but man after the past few weeks I am blown away by how effective they can be. The sheer volume of teamwork and communication between entire companies, and the speed in which stuff gets planned and then executed is wild.

It’s pretty damn amazing to watch the LM-10 flight test unfold like this after the constant rhetoric of “Oh its iterative design” from certain other programs… Turns out you can set your expectation as success from day 1 and it can work, even with a new idea.

I once suggested something like this as a back-up system for recovering Starship boosters, before Flight 5 stunned me with the chopsticks catching method. But boy did the most experienced Chinese rocket state institute chose the right way to success... m.weibo.cn/detail/53191...

Ever wondered what it might be like to stand on the launch pad during a launch? Well wonder no more as this 360 view of the LA-08 launch takes you right up to the Atlas V rocket as it launches into the night sky! youtu.be/UHkq-ZStzQ4?...
