Yeah, "Well Moderated" is inherently subjective, and you'd expect most of the discourse on such a platform to be internal drama, which isn't really conducive to building a user base.

Get strokes on both sides of your brain and people won't notice that one side of your face is droopier than the other.

They're looking at the 1% of the US population that Muslims are and they think they can get away with it. The problem with that strategy, however, is that the vast majority of the Democratic base does *not* like prejudicial behavior.

A big part of this is, imho, that he's too narrowly focused on the economic aspect in aggregate, and isn't considering how power has changed in the economy and society over the last few years.

I don't disagree; in contrast with most most of Stancil's haters I don't think he's acting in bad faith. I just think he's worked himself into a corner where there are, essentially no solutions beyond insisting that people are wrong about what they're saying their problems are.

That's *DEFINITELY* part of it, but I think a huge chunk is that people are seeing that well-being exists partially independently of economic prosperity. Most of our vibes problem isn't about money; it's about power and dignity.

This is why I hate the "it's all just vibes" dismissal; it's a thought-ender that frees the person promoting it from any obligation to think through *why* the vibes suck and how we could use policy to make the vibes suck less. Many reasons the vibes suck are, in fact, problems we could address!

Yeah, there are many reasons the vibes suck which are independent from the line going up and can only really be understood from the increased feeling of precarity that the changes in power and how it's used in this country are creating for people.

The climate is pretty damn great most of the year! If Phoenix was rebuilt as a human-centered city designed for the desert - as opposed to its current car-centeric "irrigate it until it looks like Michigan!" sprawl - it could easily be one of the most livable cities in the country.

The Hambach mine stopped expanding in 2020, three years before the nuclear phase-out, and it's only going to be in operation for three more years *precisely* because Germany is very actively pursuing other options.

But, also, we shouldn't leave aside construction codes because building a *new* code-compliant grocery store in a place like New York is also waaaay more expensive than refurbishing an older one that was grandfathered in.

Even leaving aside construction codes, you can't just use a piece of land for whatever you want; your land use often needs to be zoned for too and, while it's often pretty easy to get land rezoned from commercial to residential, going the other way is often tricky.

Given the property prices across most of NYC, there's an argument to be made that a significant chunk of the city functionally cannot have affordable free market alternatives either.
