JUST IN: The Senate Judiciary Committee has POSTPONED its hearing tomorrow on Todd Blanche’s nomination to be the Attorney General.

Nearly two dozen groups, including @mediaanddemocracy.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @publicknowledge.bsky.social @aclu.org @eff.org sent a letter to Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro supporting the company's ongoing fight against the FCC's politically-motivated investigations.

Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.

💯💯… because one of those people asked for some personal sacrifices to protect the health of others while the other guy is hyper-focused on the individualization of health so that no one has to care about anyone except themselves.

this kind of thing fills me with despair. trump will exit the stage eventually, Republicans will probably lose quite a lot in November. but a critical mass of people have opted out of basic foundations of the social contract and this will not be so easily solved.

Imagine also having to pay millions of dollars from your own pocket for personal security because the president pulled your security detail knowing that you are being hunted by delusional people seeking to kill you - and knowing that this hearing will only heighten that threat.

I am sick watching this hearing today. Imagine spending your life studying and trying to protect public health and ending up at the center of a paranoid delusional witch hunt sponsored by people that seek spectacle over truth.

From a legal and constitutional standpoint I respect Fauci’s need to invoke his 5th amendment rights in this hearing. But from a science communication and institutional trust standpoint, I am weeping inside.
