The only parts of Toronto's transit system that are "at capacity" are pieces of the bus network in suburban areas where they feed into the subway and where the solutions to the capacity problem are the easiest. There's nowhere in Toronto that should turn away development because of transit.

Spent the afternoon at Christie Pits two Saturdays ago with my daughter and friends as we rented the pizza oven to have a nice little pizza party. Offered our extra watermelon to all the families on the playground. Couple visiting from Brooklyn said it was amazing. Be afraid apparently.

I foresee problems here. The Official Plan is written to direct growth to transit corridors and to improve transit corridors as necessary to support growth. You won't be able to refuse an application because the city didn't do the second part. It will just create OLT churn.

I haven't been privy to the exact reasons the MTSA zoning wasn't brought forward but it looks to me like councillors didn't think the public could handle the discussion that this zoning update is a provincial requirement and so they are cynically pushing it to after the election to do their jobs.

Acknowledging that Vancouver's electoral system is worse than Toronto's, I do think the Villages Plan failure should cast a lot of doubt on the idea that amalgamation is what's holding Toronto back from housing reform.

The Vancouver and Toronto municipal elections have lined up since 2014 it's been so interesting to compare what's going on. In the last 2 years it seems like both cities have used TFW driven weakening housing demand to hit the brakes on housing reform. For both cities it's an enormous mistake.

I have been trying to think whether 2022 Damien would look at this summary of Toronto housing actions over the term and consider it a success. I think I would have said it's better than I expected we'd get by a little bit but that my expectations were very low to begin with.

The year is 2046. I step out into a traffic lane and step up from the road into the streetcar on my last day of work before retirement. The newly purchased streetcars have no doors with the TTC claiming that our constrained roads don't have space for mechanical doors. It would cost $38B to fix it.
