so much going on here but all i can think about right now is that i'd really like to have an official regional sponsor for when i leave the united states 'Dunhill, the official regional sponsor of charlie when he has a cigarette in europe because an occasional dart doesn't count there on vacation'

i think it IS about platforms...or it is for me! a great thing about print or a magazine is that you can do an art hed and you have so much more of a captive audience. they're not necessarily clicking away on links or switching tabs or finding it through a feed where there are endless options

i wasn't complaining about the process of doing this with editors as much as the fact that it is sometimes really hard to capture this stuff for the platforms...more of a structural/audience thing than 'editors touching my precious work' thing

yeah, this is probably a) user error but b) i often don't fully know what i want to say until i write through (which happens more when you're doing analysis, not hard news)

this, imo, is an underrated reason why the influencer journalist model is appealing to lots of people. the economics are favorable, yes...but also having the baked in audience that will go with you even if it's not immediately clear where the story is going* is a perk

it's possible i'm just telling on myself here and that's a failure of clarity or having an idea that's just too fuzzy for its own good. but also...this doesn't happen quite in the same way for lots of pods/other formats (yet)

it doesn't happen all the time but there are moments when i'll write something that i am particularly proud of *because it is very nuanced* and we get to brainstorming headlines and none of them feel good and there's this sinking feeling realization of like...ahhh man is anyone gonna read this now?

or...even WORSE...the peole who do read it but get mad on behalf of the people they imagine aren't reading beyond the headline

I'm not the greatest headline writer, in part because at the end of writing something, I've usually given it enough of my time/brainspace that it's difficult to have to sum it all up in a catchy, pithy way. but it gets clearer each year that for so many people the hed/dek are the product (it sucks!)
