Update: this decision was reversed! Kudos to the neighbors who organized themselves for a better outcome. I’m grateful that Parks was receptive to our feedback.

I look forward to receiving the data, models, methodology and any assumptions that justify these results. I look forward to seeing the citations to the critical literature that has been made reference to.

Not my district, but c’mon man. I’ll be sending a letter to Parks about this (with a cc to the D3 councilors), but this is one of those moments where in the midst of the many ongoing policy challenges that Portlanders experience that have no near term solution, you don’t add some new pain like this

Setting aside whether the relocation threat is real or a bluff (and reserving judgement on how each elected evaluates *that* piece), if you claim that there’ll be an econ impact you need to say what it is. Once you’ve done that you need to be able to articulate the credibility of the impact.

Some media outlets are reporting on the Moda term sheet with some framing that is suggesting that Council sent it terms. Not the case. Let me clarify what happened yesterday 🧵

I want to be clear that what the Blazers received today is not a term sheet from Council. That will be the product of a resolution that Council will consider, debate, amend and adopt. What they received today was the same draft that we received after initial reactions in executive session.

The timeline itself is a huge problem. Probably the biggest problem at this moment. Pushing for a sensible timeline - one commensurate with the scale of the public ask - will remain I central plank of my approach as we move forward.

Councilor Kanal just said: the old world is dying. The new world is struggling to be born. Now is the time of land use.

My position remains pretty straightforward: I’m not supporting a blank check for a public subsidy where both the scale and distribution of benefits are largely unknown. And I’m a hard no on PCEF as the source. We have contract protections for a reason, so let’s use them to not get screwed.

I’m grateful for @counciloravalos.bsky.social leadership in prioritizing this. We each brought forward amendments in the budget that sought to address the accountability concerns with UA. Those efforts failed when six of our colleagues declined to take action, but the need for oversight remains.

Good to see the paper of record finally joining those of us who have been calling for a fair deal. It’s important to get this right. We do that by ditching the artificially short timeline the Mayor and Governor set for Council, engage the public properly and negotiate *for* Portlanders.
