Yes! if you've worked in the games industry within the last 5 years you're eligible to join as a voting member, and if it's been longer you can still join as a non-voting member. Credits aren't required (we all know how bad the industry at actually crediting workers).

A reminder that the absolute best thing you can do if you want to see more projects like this is to get involved and JOIN UVW. Money is great but volunteer time is infinitely more valuable and in short supply, plus you’ll meet amazing people and learn new things!

always feel that when corporate communications justify layoffs (of workers, never CEOs), they do so by pinning the blame on people : "not enough sales / commercial performance." etc The ruling class never bears the slightest responsibility (and retains both their huge salaries & dominant positions)

The level of contempt these companies have for both the people who work for them, and their player base, is shocking. Trying to play us all for fools with most basic-ass manipulation tactics imaginable.

The timing of this kind of press is intentional. How are they going to make these games when Bethesda and Obsidian collectively laid off hundreds? Don’t fall for it.

Capitalist businesses are, as usual, responding to the problems they created like high unemployment, inflation, and precarity by selling people false solutions to those same problems, which of course just end up making the problems even worse.

And the harder it is to get money in day-to-day life through a job, the more people turn to gambling apps / high-risk investing as a way to get their fix, which only further feeds the addiction, because now you're even more desperate to "win big" than before.

You can't make money the only way to get the vast majority of your needs fulfilled and not expect people to develop a high emotional attachment / addiction to acquiring money that goes well beyond basic utility. It's a predictable outcome of capitalism.

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.
