Very good interview/episode. Recommended. (Regardless of your thoughts on the movie, different translations, and/or Wilson’s LRB review, etc.)

Fresh Air with Terry Gross & Tonya Mosley

"We need to have a protagonist with detailed, believable motivation," Wilson tells Fresh Air. "[But] these desires seem stripped from [Nolan's] Odysseus. He doesn't seem to want food. He doesn't seem to want sex. What does he want?" www.npr.org/2026/07/29/n...

More highly-unusual website traffic, today. No reason for the popular posts to receive so much attention today, of all days. This is very frustrating. Seems to have started this year, every couple of months.

You know, you can be an expert in something and still enjoy media about it that is inaccurate, not-wholly faithful to the source material or subject, and/or iffy in general. That is allowed. Apparently a lot of people on here don't know this.

Seems like almost every publisher's website has "fraud alert" pop-ups, warning about people impersonating publishing professionals. Damned depressing.

Ads on Overcast dropping mid-sentence...? Kind of a crappy "update".

Rewatching CSI: Miami, and aside from the fact that season 1 could just as easily have been titled “David Caruso: One-Note White Knight”, his Pronouncements are really damned mundane. At least the rest of the cast is getting more airtime in season 2.

Managed to not mention the Odyssey once during the rehearsal dinner or the entire wedding day yesterday. (Cousin-in-law’s wedding.) Genuinely surprised it didn’t come up at all.

I think a mark of Nolan’s success with Odyssey is that it’s leaving so many people wanting more — even after a 3hr movie. Whatever you might think of the choices he made, it has stirred a fantastic amount of interest in mythology and story in general, and that’s something to be applauded.

Very much enjoying this. I’m probably not taking in as much as I would if I was reading (as opposed to audiobook). I was expecting this, because I take in more of a new book when reading as opposed to listening. But, Fry’s narration is very good.

Damnit, Nolan. Still thinking about ODYSSEY, so I'm just going to continue my read-through of Stephen Fry's Mythos books. (Read the first two earlier this year.) Next up: TROY www.chroniclebooks.com/products/troy Published by @chroniclebooks.bsky.social in North America...
