The battle of Hopkins bike lanes are back, the final battle, and I got a lot to say. I haven't attended a Berkeley city council meeting in 7 years, but on Tuesday I'll be there, and I hope you will too. darrellowens.substack.com/p/the-final-...

But for this to succeed we definitely need all of you in Berkeley writing (using the tool we provided) and showing up (especially in person)!

the last major proposal was thrown off course by questions about the Fire Department support. thankfully those have been addressed and now Council is considering a REALLY GREAT proposal put forward by CM Kesarwani - to have two-way, protected cycle tracks! berkeleyca.gov/sites/defaul...

In a startup challenge… we forgot our banner… so look for the bikes to the east side under the shade!

Apt banner in the cafe. This is (one of) the kind of person we want to help! You can’t have a creative culture without affordable housing!

first Zoom speaker is a student who notes that Elmwood was the first place in the country to implement luxury housing. someone in the in person audience yells “that’s why we have dorms!” yours truly might have lost their patience a bit with said audience yeller.

The leader of Save Berkeley Shops repeatedly claimed that this proposal is moving faster than the Housing Element promised. In fact he’s exactly wrong. The Housing Element promises to ADOPT the policy by December of this year.

And the guy with the fur coat read a letter from Patrick Kennedy, basically opposed to the commercial district zoning. Which is some sort of Berkeley madlib.
