Today we would like to recognize Ken Sample aka Ken Cougar. A Black man who is credited with creating and coining the term "Fursona". While drawing one of his "Exotics" Ken drew a Cougar character that looked strikingly like himself. Attendees of this conference also wanted their own characters!

They aren't victims, guys. "They've been doing this at a loss, for free, for 25 years!" Yes, and for 20+ of those years, they got by just fine without using AI, because IT WASN'T A THING. They came up with creative solutions to their promotional needs. It's not about money - it's about values.

It should not be that hard to apologize for using AI in a community of artists. It should be EVEN EASIER to just not use it in the first place.
That's what bugs me most about this whole thing. Both Pawpet Show and the people coming to their defense are buying right into the techbro propaganda - acting as if they NEED AI because they can't afford anything else, as if they can't come up with solutions. It's learned helplessness.
