Chicago, Bike Grid Now!

We're demanding a city-wide #bikegridnow with slow & safe bike-prioritized streets across Chicago. bikegridnow.org

How are we supposed to build the bike grid under these conditions? Tell CMAP to be serious here: forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/Respon...

The draft RTP proposes only 0.6% of funding to improve walking and biking transportation infrastructure in the region, which are low-emission modes that also help people connect to transit service. Active transportation is deemed an "enhancement," not integral part. cmap.illinois.gov/wp-content/u...

Join us on Monday! Monday! Monday!

Chicago, Bike Grid Now!

We are SO tired of being hit on Lincoln Ave so we're jamming. The NW side has Milwaukee, the SW side has Archer, and the West side is getting Ogden. We want the same for Lincoln Ave, which CDOT is not maintaining. 📍 Oz Park (Lincoln/Larrabee/Webster) ⏰ Monday 7/27, 6:30 meet, 6:45 roll

We spoke with the 48th Ward. The geofencing only applies to Divvy and Lime scooters. It does not currently apply to Divvy e-bikes.

Brandon

I don’t love that the city is embracing geofencing divvy bikes in neighborhoods/corridors. I have sympathy to concerns about sidewalk riding but if people are riding in an area they likely have a reason and the goal should be to build proper infrastructure at their destination.

We need your help and feedback. The next time you ride on any part of the Lakefront Trail between Museum Campus and Jackson Park, send us a dashcam-style video for an upcoming project. Let us know you're able to help out via a DM or at grassroots@bikegridnow.org.

ACTION ALERT: Please attend the 19th Police District's monthly meeting to learn more about where the RRPEA pilot stands and how you can help. If CPD isn't going to enforce traffic laws to keep us safe, we need citywide programs that let us help keep us safe. 📍4501 N Clarendon ⏰ Weds July 29th 6:30p

ACTION ALERT 🚨 Ald. Martin (47) is hosting a hearing at the Committee on Public Safety on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:30a. With the 8th and 19th Police District Councilors, there is a proposal to direct all 911 parking violation (PVs) calls to the Department of Finance rather than CPD (1/4).

One of our marshals had their bike stolen at Leavitt/Cermak today. The bike says "scourer" and has cork handles; it's one of a kind. They have a small reward if you find it or the kindness of your heart will do. Throw a lock on it + get in touch with us somehow and we'll get it back to them.

Has a road near you been resurfaced, but the bike lane paint was not put back down? Is the paint fading in an existing lane? Let us know below or DM us. We've seen many examples of CDOT failing to replace paint in the 32nd, 40th, 47th, and 48th wards so far

Chicago has been putting off building a bike grid for over 14 years (since 1999, 27 years).

Brent Toderian

“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.” #Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

We could be building the entire Bike Grid for less than this and it would produce more economic return

Chicago Tribune

This is the first indication Mayor Brandon Johnson wants the public money to go toward infrastructure around the 22,000-seat privately funded stadium Fire owner Joe Mansueto is building at the site.
