Data-driven research is a tautology, no? Isn't all research data-driven? What'd be a more accurate name? Theory-free research?

I gave a conference talk early on in my PhD, that makes me cringe every time I read my CV It was called "Reflections as a settler person doing research in collaboration with Indigenous peoples" The cringe is a good reminder of my own learning journey and to have some humility for others

Totally! I was reading an argument against dynamic consent, that because people make 'irrational' and 'immoral' choices we should disregard those choices But they never explain where they draw the line - because it's socially constructed! Hello modern-day colonialism!

being 'irrational' (or in this case, political) is framed as a human deficiency, rather than a problem of the assumptions placed on how people are supposed to behave. People who criticise science for being 'political' are holding on to a philosophical ideal that doesn't match human reality

I reckon philosophy, as the underpinning of 'the scientific method', has a lot to answer for here. Logic and reasoning underpin good arguments, so being logical/rational is also good People are regularly 'illogical' or 'irrational' though. But that's just how people are! The problem arises when...

I don't see those papers as a reflection of me, more a reflection of the current state of academia

Idk if I regret some of them as such, but there's definitely a couple which felt like duds (hint: practitioner-led audits of medical registries) Academia seems like a numbers game in some ways, so I just see the papers as filler. Better to have them than not?
