This narrative about blackouts is being pushed hard by gas lobbyists (albeit may be a couple of dinosaurs who work at Nat Grid feeding them ammo) Gas generators make huge profits from inertia & other services; now they are pushed out by much cheaper batteries (which are an adequate replacement)

Can't see increased tax on gas, it will give the gas lobby a lever. Key thing is less gas as elec source It's why the likes of Coutinho, Porter etc. now make waves about system stability & Reform oppose batteries. They know once gas is gone for extended periods, prices drop sharply & the jig is up

Its' not just the media, like all the fuss about the air conditioning this narrative about risk of blackouts is not organic, it's being pushed by lobbyists

Gas generators are starting to loose very lucrative balancing revenue to much cheaper batteries. They are terrified that once it's forced out, consumers will see clearly that gas has been responsible for high electricity prices. So they spread FUD about bogus risks to system stability.

To my happy surprise Miatta Fahnbulleh seems an excellent choice to replace Miliband as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. "Fahnbulleh has pushed hard for serious action on the climate crisis and has advocated more urgency in the UK’s response" 👍👍
