Trying to be the first MLS Cap Guy Current: 🚙 Data Analyst Prev: ⚽️ Data w/ FC Dallas ☄️UT Dallas ‘19/20 BS/MS Economics https://footyanalyticmusings.substack.com/

Ask FC Dallas fans how record sales helped their playoff success (They’ve made it to the second round twice since 2019)

Colorado Rapids done it again. Some deals in recent years: 🇦🇺 Lucas Herrington, $17m + $6m add-ons (Hull City) 🇺🇸 Djordje Mihailovic, $8m (Toronto) 🇨🇦 Moise Bombito, $7.7m + add-ons (OGC Nice) 🇺🇸 Auston Trusty $3m (Arsenal) 🇺🇸 Cole Bassett, $2.65m (Portland)

Atlanta United is the poster child of increasing spend not equaling to results. Incredible to see the discretionary slots used so poorly in a league where you really need at least one of them to hit.

🇨🇮 BREAKING: Union Berlin has signed forward Emmanuel Latte Lath on a one-year loan from Atlanta United, per sources. Deal opens a DP spot for Atlanta as club chase big targets. Latte Lath, 27, gets fresh start in Germany. 11 goals in 48 apps for Atlanta after joining in $22m deal.

Nolan Norris is one of the best kept secrets in MLS right now. He bounced around positions until finally finding CB. He was a player described to me as a very smart player but they were trying to figure out physically where he would fit on the field. He’s finally looked comfy in a back 3

I get they’ve had success doing it but I hate when LAFC just goes into this shell and sits back. Against bad teams sure, it’ll work but Vancouver is just teeing up chance after chance. You’re LAFC with great players, why are you asking these guys to suffer against the ball

I’m pretty sure Casemiro just had a horrible pass than led to a turnover and then scored the ensuing own goal

Deleted my last post because I totally blanked. Herrington was a regular player, not a U22. Got from the A League for cheap and now is going to get the Rapids a mother load of money. He wasn’t even a U22!

Sources: Hull City in discussions for Colorado Rapids center back Lucas Herrington, but the deal is NOT done. The 18-year-old Australian could be Premier League bound, but work to be done on the deal still. With @david-ornstein.bsky.social @dtathletic.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...

Thanks for Jason for having me on last night. We discussed so much about the future of MLS and how we both see it (and my misery as a Cowboys fan)

There's a new episode of The Best Soccer Show out. I talked out my thoughts on Pochettino's (likely?) return as USMNT coach and @armankafai.bsky.social joined to dive into the shakeup of MLS spending rules. Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/0yVZ... Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...

I wrote this back in March, and I believe it's still important today. Do we want MLS to be the Bundesliga or La Liga?

The Battle for MLS ParityMLS is at a delicate position where parity reigns king... but will that last?footyanalyticmusings.substack.com

Going to run through this because I just read a piece talking about changing MLS Roster Rules and mentioning how GAM is a restriction. One of biggest flaws MLS has done is not been clear with what GAM is. If anything, GAM has allowed the league to spend beyond what it even currently had planned

Alright, yall got me to stop being lazy. Here are some realistic changes I’d make to the MLS Roster Rules, with my reasoning and an example at the bottom. Enjoy everyone:

Simple, yet effective: Changing the MLS Roster RulesI've seen and heard a lot of ideas, but there doesn't need to be a complete overhaul for big changeopen.substack.com

I’ve told people this privately but will say it here. The biggest problem when you look at MLS rosters isn’t the usage of allocation money. It’s the fact that the max budget charge is capped at a certain amount and your average annual budget charge can’t exceed it year after year

Tom Bogert

💰 Sources: MLS owners expected to hear presentation on significant changes to structure of roster rules, centered around a more open salary cap system Potential huge change for future of MLS. DPs would remain Reporting with @paultenorio.bsky.social Details ⬇️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/747...

Huge swing by Atletico Dallas to bring in a name like Chicharito. Will he be good? I’m not sure. But it’ll for sure bring eyeballs to a team thats competing with an MLS side in its market

Fabrizio Romano (MIRROR)

🚨🇲🇽 EXCL: Javier Chicharito Hernández has agreed to join Atlético Dallas, first signing ever for new USL Championship side. Chicharito will start playing from 2027 but will be contributing to the project immediately. 38 year old striker, set for new chapter. 🇺🇸

Montreal is just assembling a team of random MLS vets because of all the excess GAM they have. $2M+ for Pereira, $850K for Ceballos. The real question is… Will they get a DP anytime soon?

Petar Musa just gave Dallas a potential another three points. Team was out of ideas and on the backfoot and he just creates a goal on his own by recovering a loose ball.
