Alright, yall got me to stop being lazy. Here are some realistic changes I’d make to the MLS Roster Rules, with my reasoning and an example at the bottom. Enjoy everyone:

Simple, yet effective: Changing the MLS Roster RulesI've seen and heard a lot of ideas, but there doesn't need to be a complete overhaul for big changeopen.substack.com

Hey, I know this is basically for insiders who know what the terms mean, but I think it's helpful to spell out what GAM, DP, U22's, TAM is on first reference and a one-sentence explainer on each. For a first-time reader, they might click away to search it on Google and then go down a rabbit hole.

Great article Arman. I like your idea of making DPs count as 12.5% of the mid point to the cap.

Two things: 1) Isn't the salary floor just the league minimum salary x roster spots? 2) Instead of service years, make it either caps or appearances in the matchday squad. 75 appearances or 100 match squads feels right (across all competitions)

I think you want the floor higher than that to make teams spend more than the bare minimum. Wouldn’t think it has to be a lot higher but want teams to spend more to try to push the league forward.

It's always higher than that, I believe as a function of revenue share (in most leagues, at least)

I dunno. It’s still to me just being their own little league. They will never be able to compete internationally with all these rules. If it’s all about MLS CUP then have all the rules you want .

Lunch reading for tomorrow set. Thanks!
