Author (The Ember of Elyssia Quartet, Fortune's Calling Trilogy, THE BRIDAL PARTY, THE PRINCE WITH SIX FACES). Dice roller. Disabled in the library. All opinions mine. All around nerd. https://linktr.ee/annaholmeswritesbooks (She/they) ♿️🏳️‍🌈

Anyway my shoes are cute, I’m enjoying this swing back toward the femme (I tend to go back and forth), and it’s exciting that I can wear heeled shoes again (because I don’t walk anymore).

I went looking because it wasn’t a term I was familiar with and uncovered like…centuries-old xenophobia. It’s a rectangle square situation. Brogues are a type of Oxford, not all oxfords are brogues. Wingtips are, though.

“THEY’RE OXFORDS,” these people yowl. Despite this type of shoe being invented here for gentlemen who worked outdoors, specifically because they dry faster. For a long time, they were too “lower class” to be worn in Parliament. But when they got stylish, guess who wanted credit?

I think in all seriousness it’s the way they have to scramble to stay on message. I’m usually scrambling for words, but not dishonestly.

Am a little confused about what it is. A transfer lift? A shower?

We can talk all day long about why we even have separate facilities, whether RADAR is actually helpful or not, whether we should have to mark ourselves in order to not be harassed by nosy assholes, but in the meantime, you’re safe with me.

You can also snag a sunflower lanyard. It’s not a promise that ableists will leave you alone, but it does draw some of the critique away. It’s also generally not a lie—most trans people I know do live with one or more “invisible” disabilities.

We are also really, REALLY used to the stress of “shit, what if I have to pee while I am out, is there anywhere safe for me to do that?” It derails plans, can make us physically sick to try to avoid it, and is generally infuriating, because it does not have to be like this.

Disabled people are almost all familiar with the effects of the social model of disability—where it’s less our bodies preventing full social inclusion and more of the fact that abled people just can’t quit throwing up barriers for us. In short: we get it.

I’m less worried about Terry Pratchett’s honor and more about the astonishing lack of critical thought here

So yeah, the FANTASY AUTHOR might just have more realistic ideas than Mr. Look What You Made Me Do, Now I Have to Be Misogynist (Again)

On top of everything, he is, as always, wrong about poverty, but what do you expect from someone who has the money to sink into multiple losing campaigns

But yeah, kept watching her like oh weird some people have pinkies that don’t bend sickeningly far

“We’re so polarized, so you should just agree with me instead!” -every conservative ever

Oh man, I feel this.

Oh man, from the fiction side of things, my folks were absolutely convinced I was skewering them in prose. It taught me that maybe personal nonfiction is not an option for me right now. I hope you do granddad proud.

3. If you know something has a high chance of upsetting SOMEONE and you decide your lols are more important, you’re a shitbird and I hope a bird shits on you, your home or vehicle, important work project, or Hinge date. Whichever is most mortifying.

In before “it’s not my responsibility to emotionally regulate for you, use mute words or log off”— 1. If you were in a grocery store and made a douchey comment about something traumatic, would you tell other customers they should leave? 2. The way y’all fail at alt text means things sneak through.

And there’s splash damage. You don’t know who’s had to file a report after witnessing something horrific that happened to a student or patient or family member, who’s found out the hard way that the police and CPS can do more harm than good. Just be respectful right now. Lots of hurt to go around.

PTSD doesn’t have a “look”. A weird number of people think they will be able to discern who’s upset and keep inappropriate comments away from them. My dudes, the point of all this discussion is that abuse can happen to anybody anywhere. It’s not just the purview of the wealthy or the impoverished.
