I'm shocked that the young lad who was charging his phone on a €350k John Deere, with a custom three-axle silage trailer, using an engine that costs €50/hour in diesel isn't all that price sensitive about the price of diesel. Shocked!

For context, the entire bike-to-work scheme cost €27.1 million for five years (2020 to 2024 inclusive).

This is not an incidental cost. When the OPW managed to fritter away €490k on that wall outside Lansdowne House, fencing and traffic management (for a site adjoining a laneway and a wide footpath) was the largest part of the ancillary cost.

In all likelihood, those barriers and that scaffolding is leased, and driving up the project cost daily.

I'm surprised it's only 40%. I keep expenses spreadsheets and, out of curiosity, compared supermarket shopping from 2019 to this year. We're spending 73% more and it's not like we have suddenly acquired a champagne addiction.

I think commentators should be more careful. It seems clear the curse ran its course and expired on schedule. The makers of curses tend to be particular about hubris.
