this blows way past "reasonable people can disagree about how to address institutional transphobia at the NYT" into a cross between "my trans friend said it was okay for me to say that word" and "what so I need notarized permission from the 'trans community' to wipe my ass now"
Ken JenningsThis may be true of others but I actually got express permission from the trans community to keep NYT games and recipes. I also have a news subscription, which is arguably worse, so I had to specifically send in a written request. Took 30 days but I got approved.
i think it's important for people to remember that puberty blockers *were* the "moderate, compromise" position.
Never let someone tell you that you must excuse owning enslaved people or participating in killing Native people because someone was "of their time". Silas Soule was of the same time.
Patrick McCrayRemembering Silas Soule, born OTD in 1838. American abolitionist, conductor on the Underground Railroad, military officer, and hero for disobeying orders to participate in Sand Creek Massacre and then giving evidence against his commander. Murdered 1865. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silas_S...
The legendary "walking bed" page from Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo in Slumberland" was published on July 26, 1908. If there’s a Mt. Rushmore for Sunday pages, this one is certainly on it.
Politicians and pundits giving up human rights of some "in order to win" is like players scoring on their own goal "in order to win." Yes, you're scoring. You've also forgotten the game, and why you're playing, and what winning even is, and you have to be benched in favor of people who remember.
Oliver WillisI will not negotiate away anybody’s human rights and I will oppose any politician who thinks that is an ok stance. I don’t care what party. If you’re going to support democrats who oppose transgender humanity the entire thing isn’t worth fighting for. The line must be drawn.
finally watched a movie tonight that I had long been meaning to, about a band of folks who might be considered terrorists, which is odd since they never meant to terrorize the general population related, go watch @theabigailthorn.bsky.social's video on Violence & Protest: youtu.be/dh4G1Gjv7bA?...
