Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t always try to be our best selves, else we risk becoming complacent and getting worse. It just pays to recognize our common humanity and our innate capability for causing harm, one way or another. What always matters most is how we move forward if and when we do.

“But I’ve never done anything wrong! I’ve never been the asshole! Right…?” Probably; likely without even realizing it, and no matter how we pretend otherwise. Whether it’s not foreseeing consequences due to inexperience or even taking part in society, no one gets through life without causing harm.

It’s a lot of young people raised online, well before they can understand how complicated morality really is and - importantly - before they can see that complexity in themselves. From experience, the realization that you, too, fall under a shade of grey is *crushing* if you’re used to moralizing.

People weren't saying the animation was made with AI oh my GOD!!! That's not what people were worried about- they were worried about cultural research being assisted by ai- as mentioned in an official art book at an official event!!

Everything about the Dark Avatar in Korra just turned what was a great concept into just another “evil guy”. Even “Anti-Avatar” would have sounded better. I hope maybe the new series will return to this concept and do it better since the new Avatar has a twin, buuuuut I’m tempering my expectations.

I think a lot of people working with AI are just kind of normies who are desensitized to it and view it as “just another tool” without really considering or giving much weight to the concerns a lot of people have. That’s why it’s important to be vocal.

As another example, I love Expedition 33, but them using AI for a placeholder does make me wonder. The devs say it was early in production around 2022, when AI was new and terrible, and they abandoned it when they realized its limitations and ethical problems.

This is the hard part. Objectively a lot of talented artists worked on AA:TLA! But if you see AI referenced in production even once, it does make one wonder how much was used elsewhere in the project. I think it’s fair to support and honour their hard work while still holding healthy skepticism.

It absolutely does. I think it's a gorgeous movie and lots of people did phenomenal work on it, but it stings that I now have to wonder to what degree it's tainted by this garbage

Seriously, if it was already a bad look citing Wikipedia back in school due to potential for unsourced statements, citing ChatGPT with its potential for hallucinations and unsourced statements should be liable for ridicule.

Genuinely starting to believe that A:TLA’s success was a fluke. Does ChatGPT even cite sources? At the BARE MINIMUM if you’re using one of these you shouldn’t use what is plagiarized and possibly wrong or irrelevant anyways. Check your sources and talk to people, ESPECIALLY if they’re marginalized.

Nah. Most people noticed me thru Digital Circus, usually independent animators and game devs. Those take time (if they end up finished at all) so it’ll be a while before people start seeing an influx of new roles from me out in the open.
