If you look at other Mythologies... Odin actually slots into a repeating role. He's the King who gets obsessed with his future, learns of who will kill him, and then gives them the power, opportunity, and motive to do it by trying to avoid his destiny. If he did nothing, no Ragnarok.

It's more that he's a Trickster. Odin plays games, and you really shouldn't trust him. Even if he isn't lying, you can be almost certain that he isn't telling you everything. Thor is reasonably trustworthy.

Because the odds of someone shooting a cop goes up dramatically when people believe there are Fake Cops around. You let this go on long enough, and people can turn up to court with a self defense claim built on a reasonable assumption that it was an impersonator.

To be fair, blowing money on ads wasn't useless when they adopted the strategy. Just being on TV added credibility, even if you were paying to play. After two and a half decades of Reality TV and resentment to ads filling everything up... it's less so.

The "Vibesession" is easier to understand than that. The Economy has been optimized for metrics that don't affect normal people anymore, if they ever did. So you get good numbers out of a shit sandwich.

I think his presence just kills the mood... and a cheering crowd gives a few tenths of a percent performance boost to a team. That doesnt matter in most games... but when you are world class the marginal edge can be determinative.

My money is on them being Micenean Greeks. Theres not a ton of evidence for Sea People raiding Crete and their heartland... and their civilization winks out at the same time as the rest of the Bronze Age Collapse. Could be due to trade network disruption... or them being the Sea People.

There are two US Interests in the area. The first is keeping the Suez open, and the second is keeping the Saudis charging USD for Oil. Israel is only of interest to those who rely on the Evangelical Christian vote, or foreign lobbying to get elected.

Governments are the ultimate case of Infinite Motivation for corruption. The potential gains if you get away with it are almost unlimited. All you need is to establish Motivation in enough people, convincing them that Government is Capital-E Evil, and you can assemble a crew to make Opportunity.

This is a well-known issue in Financial Controls. If everyone at an organization responsible for enforcing Controls agrees not to... you're up a creek without a paddle. In industry, the Board USUALLY serves as a backstop. In the United States, you're stuck with the Voters as the final backstop.

I hope so. Musk's backing has been the kiss of death for a ton of candidates so far.
